Last Man Standing rules
The complete rules, as Standing plays them. Short version: one team a round, win and you are through, a draw or a loss and you are out, and you can only use each team once.
Picking a team
Each round, back one team to win their match.
Picks are made before the round’s deadline, and you can change yours up until it.
At the deadline every pick locks. Nothing changes a locked pick.
Winning, drawing and losing
Your team wins: you are through to the next round. A narrow win counts exactly the same as a thrashing.
Your team draws or loses: you are out. A draw is not half-credit.
One use per team
Once you have picked a team they leave your pool for the rest of that competition.
The pool belongs to the competition — playing in more than one, you have a separate pool in each.
Missed picks
Miss the deadline and a team is picked for you at random from the ones you have left with a match that round.
It counts exactly as if you had picked it yourself — including being used up. You are never eliminated for forgetting.
Postponed and abandoned matches
If your team’s match is postponed or abandoned, your pick is spent and you survive the round.
The team does not come back into your pool. It is the one outcome that is neither a win nor a loss, and it is resolved in your favour.
Seeing other people’s picks
Whether picks show as they come in, or stay hidden until the deadline, is set when the competition is created.
Hidden picks are revealed to everyone once the round locks.
Wildcards
Some competitions use wildcards — one-use cards that bend a single round in your favour. Whoever creates the competition decides whether theirs does.
How it ends
The competition runs until one person is left standing, and they win.
If everyone still in goes out in the same round, it either rolls over into a new competition or everyone who was standing comes back and it continues. Whoever created it chooses which.
Points, tables and money
There are no points, no league table and no ranking. You are in or you are out, and everyone still in is level.
Playing for money, the organiser collects the pot and pays it out. No money goes through Standing.
Play it, don’t referee it
Standing applies every rule on this page automatically.
